I couldn't agree more. I must admit it makes me feel a little pathetic that I even have an opinion about an article discussing peoples' comments about a statue of people taking a picture of themselves.

My only complaint is that it should have been placed directly in front of Starbucks, rather than 100 feet away.

I see people lining up taking selfies with it. It is a big attraction.

My teenage cousins went over there and took couple of selfies with a duck face. Look kind of hideous, but what does middle age geezers like me know.

If it's irritating enough, it will probably be vandalized or drug away soon. People usually take care of things themselves if it reaches that point.

Besides, people get outraged over anything these days. There's no surprise to that. We don't need to jump on the bandwagon and get emotional too, naively acting like this is unusual. Even posting it here to this forum is giving them more attention and publicity.

News media feeds from "outrage"
If one person complained about it in Facebook, news media will say
"The city of Sugar Land is outraged"

I think it's a great idea. It is documenting a cultural and historical trend we are going through right now.

Leaving aside opinion of the statue itself, the publicity that Sugar Land is getting from this must be good for them. Anything that puts them in the spotlight like this and isn't very negative (this isn't that bad) is bound to be a net positive in the long run.

Actually, if you look at most major cities, the trends have reversed in the past decade. Suburbs have more diversity and true ethnic foods than inner cities who cater to tourists with Olive Gardens. The alternative to chains in the inner cities are hipster dives where you'll wait an hour for basic brunch food.
