That location for Richmond is right next to Long Meadow Farms. Up until today, it looked to be a pretty good place to buy a home with decent schools, good community/amenities, offering better commute options for a lot of people, and holding steady in value. This low income housing, if and when built, might hit LMF the hardest in this area.

WTH?? That area was decent. Are they TRYING to expand this into Alief 2.0?? People work hard to provide safe environment to raise a family and have garbage like this forced on them that will initiate the decline of the whole area.

Outside the county who can stop them? That's why they do ETJ's and that area is ripe for it since there's no city to answer to and people are not as involved in the county level

While I'm not a supporter of federal tax dollars going to housing or federal policy subsidizing housing and homeowners (of any income level), I'm not getting this "forced" comment. Tax credit affordable housing is done in large part by private developers who choose their own sites. Now, yes, the Supreme Court has said as of last year that candidate projects in areas with lower poverty, Black/Hispanic shares of population, and better performing schools should be favored over sites on the flip side of that description, but that doesn't quite mean "forced." It sounds more like you think better-off homeowners should be able to explicitly keep out development that caters to lower income people - meaning explicit restrictions on private land use. Now that is definitely "forcing."

Just because a community is proposed does not mean it is going to happen. There is typically a long list of apartments wanting to build under this program and only a few actually get approved. 5-6 years ago they wanted to build a low income senior apartment at 1093/Spring Green. It ended up being way down on the list all the way towards the end and of course never got approved and was scrapped. Low income requires numerous needs to make sense like public transportation etc.

That WAS true, but the Supreme Court decision and the attention of the housing "advocates" that pushed the case (they're based in TX) will likely put a different skew on the selection decisions.

This topic is why or at least a significant contributor as to why there is so much widespread crime these days. Not suggesting that the poor are always trouble makers but it just takes a few and their friends and friends of friends to compromise a neighborhood. The law abiding poor know this better than anyone.

I live in Long meadow farms and am not happy about the way this was brought about. It was very hush hush from the public until it was found by someone in the area and it was 2 days before opposition could chime in. The CEO Vita can't even get any facts, has told several different things during meetings contradicting herself. The last meeting a few days ago, she was very unprepared and couldn't answer, or was hiding info, the questions coming her way. We have talked to others who work with her and on this project and they have conflicting answers as well. Of course we want everyone to do their own research and form your own opinion about this matter, but if you do oppose it, her is a link to sign a petition that we will send to our State Representatives in Austin via email and I am going up there next week to present it in person so it isn't just brushed aside. If the link doesn't work, go to change.org and search Concerned Residents in Support of Maintaining our Existing Community.

People are still arguing against the apartments in Telfair even with them being built and occupied. I have no problem with the apartments, but have hated the commercial. Costco and Starbucks are the only useful things in Telfair (not sure if HEB and Fadis are part of the Telfair development).
