Raid. Spray a perimeter where it is likely to cross (and where you are not likely to step). Often times just walking across the spray residue is enough to kill them.

I do my own pest control. Go to Solutions and get whatever they recommend. They sell professional grade stuff. Much cheaper than getting a pest control company. And much better than off the shelf stuff.

Oh, and welcome to Houston!

The big ones come from outside and usually don't indicate an infestation. The small to medium roaches indicate an infestation. Do you have lots of pine trees or banana plants near the house -- those big roaches love those and you will probably always get an occasional one inside with those plants around.

They love palm trees too. Also get Combat for large roaches from the grocery store.

Raid for Texas cockroach? LOL.

They breath that and laugh at you afterward.

I buy some pro grade stuff on Amazon by Tengard SFR.

Spray every 2-3 months surrounding the house and nothing have ever come in.

Once in a while in Houston, you get a roach. Especially after rains. Learn to be good with a shoe or a book. There is an art to it--you have to be fast and anticipate where the roach will be once it starts running and aim there. Also, as the earlier poster said, spray the raid maximum impact or whatever their strongest one is called. I use it and it really works.

Get a cat.

I get one or two of those roaches in my house a year. Here is my method of execution:

1. Pour a glass of wine (if it's morning, you substitute coffee).
2. Take a book and the wine outside on the patio.
3. Go back in and make sure the cat sees the roach.
4. Go back outside and read and drink wine. You may hear mayhem inside, but ignore.
5. Go back inside in a while and look at the cat. If it appears tense, go back outside. Repeat until the cat looks relaxed, which means the job is complete.

It's Dead Bug Walking if it goes into a house with a cat.
