The Best Tips for Finding Cheap Airfare With Google Flights

The problem is when you want to go. During Holidays times (including spring break) airfare is always more expensive. A travel agent will not change that.

It's not always hype. Found a $425 Delta fare to Maui last summer in peak travel that none of my other site alerts were able to catch. Booked immediately and the fare was gone 30 mins later. Hopper works best if you have flexible dates though. Skyscanner and Google Flights work best on fixed dates.

Remember booking through some third party sites like a few of the ones listed in the above post will cause airlines to be inflexible on some rebooking rules in the event of a delay or missed connection. They'll tell you to take it up with the site. Always best to book directly through the airline (even if through an agency) when possible. Just had a coworker miss a BA flight out of Rome and BA told them they couldn't do anything since it was bought by a 3rd party. Had to forfeit the ticket and buy a new one on Turkish for 1k euro! Check check check the policies carefully!

Good for your mate and I am glad you got some great deals. I didn't. Maybe the flexibility? Some day I will. Thanks again :-)

Didn't realize that travel agents still existed. Seriously.

I can think of 5 different friends of mine just off the top of my head who are travel agents. And they are very good at what they do and make good money. I usually use them for disney stuff - free for me to use, they get paid by disney, and I don't have to deal with the headache of finding the deals! The others generally book cruises for people.

Google flights is great for flexible dates. If you don't think so, you aren't using it to its full potential.
