There are clothing donation companies, you can call them and they'll pick it up. I don't know where you live, but you can call 281 869 7990. That's for my area The Woodlands/Spring, but I believe they'll give you other area number.

I don't know what company would pick up other things, but I just load things to my truck and take it to them. Like women's shelter, Salvation Army, Good Will. Don't know anyone who would pick it up.

Habitat Restore will pick up household stuff.

Salvation Army will pick up. Depends on where you are, but NAM and Cam will pick up. Although, the NAM guy is sometimes hours off from the time they tell you he will be there. Grouchy, too.

We did something similar once, we gave it to some "poor" families who looked like they needed it out in Katy They were very grateful, and we felt good. Well about three weeks later, we happened to drive by a house and saw some of our stuff for sale! Curious, we got out to check it out, and the "poor" people turned right around and were selling things for a huge profit. Well, if it was free to them, any profit is huge! We were suckered, and I felt taken advantage of.

That was the last time we gave directly to people. We now donate to charities, where at least we get receipts for tax purposes, and we always itemize anyway, it helps.

Hmm, maybe that's what the problem was. Even though they were appreciative, they may have been offended?

Why would they be offended? Unless they are reading CD now, they have no idea what I surmised of them. For the record, they were here illegally, spoke no English and their kids had never been to a school in the US. It was two families, just the women and children, their husbands were working. They spoke with my wife who told talked at length with them, telling them how to enroll their kids in school, what documents they needed for the school, etc. They were from Michoacan to be exact. They were appreciative, and my wife is the one who decided to give away the furniture, and clothes, not I. I only helped them load it. In fact, I did not even know that they did not pay for it, my wife told me later that night.

Would the salvation army come pick up a punching bag with stand? If they do, I'll call them tomorrow.
