I need some suggestion on the extra curricular activity for my 6 year old daughter . She is going to a ballet class and she loves it . But she is not interested in any other sports and she not that athletic .my husband really wants her to Persue a sport , but we are not sure how to encourage her about that .

Math is the other thing she shows interest other than ballet . Is there anything I should do improve her skills in math ?

She might like gymnastics and it would be great for her coordination (my granddaughter did gymnastics and it was an excellent sport for her). She might also enjoy swimming or karate.

For math, look for lego or robotic clubs or kids classes at the local community college.

If you want to do math at home with her, look for this book:
https://www.amazon.com/Family-Math-Y.../dp/0912511273

Also this website has fun math games to play:
1st Grade Math Activities for Kids | Education.com

Cook with her - have her read the recipes and measure.

Read math stories -
Math Picture Books (Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grades)

One they did not list is How Big is a Foot by Rolf Myller
You can act it out for fun.

Another is Inch by Inch by Leo Lionni - lots of fun activities with this one too.

Ballet will probably be more athletically demanding than two thirds of the other youth sports out there.

One thing I do that has helped my kids academically is having the radio off in the car and calling out words for them to spell and math problems. It's really amazing how much you can do on those rides. I taught my first grader how to spell all the months in a matter of five days while just practicing in the car.

This is totally true ! Ballet is more athletically demanding than your regular 6 year old sport once a week .

My daughter has been competitive in Irish dance since 8 years old..she is 17 now and trains just as hard as most athletes. Ballet and other dance forms are lifelong sports, you don't have to quit at 30. A dancer in our school in TN is 78...phenomenal leg strength!!!

At six, there may be math camps or clubs she can join..as she gets older they have robotics competitions and such she can check out. My kids are 17-21...don't make the mistake of over committing your child. Her father should take her fishing, hiking, read books daily to her, serve at a food pantry..all those things will do more for her development than adding practices and sports.

My son is a competitive rower in college, one daughter is a prolific writer but competed in ID for 8 years, the other will likely compete to Worlds...find one athletic outlet they love and encourage the hard work they put into it...too many jump from one thing to the next and never reach a point of mastery..mastering anything brings confidence and a strong work ethic...and usually humility

My daughter was not very sporty either, but she enjoyed t-ball/Dad pitch/machine pitch girls softball for several years. She did it until it changed to girl pitch, then she quit. At that point, the athletic girls were taller and more skilled. She found out through softball that she was a fast runner, and later became involved in running. The softball league was a great father/daughter activity and gave my daughter the experience of being on a sports team. She is on the cross country team in high school.
