Here’s something to note. Houston has a very large underrated finance industry. For reasons even beyond oil, Houston’s economy is known for being more international than DFW and DFW’s is known for being more domestic than HOU. Even in the finance industry, this holds weight.

For those who don’t know, Banorte (Mexico’s largest financial company) moved its USA headquarters from NYC to Houston a few weeks ago. Beyond this, though, international based financed firms are also more concentrated here. Wells Fargo, BBVA and many others have major headquarters here too.

There’s still plenty of domestic finance and insurance activity here. Big names like Woodforest, Prosperity, ANICO insurance (projected to reach Fortune 500 status soon) and overall regional focus points for others. But an unreasonably number of international finance companies are here as compared to Dallas and San Antonio who are bigger players in domestic finance.

Was looking into financial companies here. I didn't know Allpoint, the world's largest ATM Network, was based out of here.

UST just opened the first phase of their Conroe campus. Seems like Conroe will be Houston's next great suburb.

Another one! *DJ Khalid voice*

Chicago-based marine debris removal company, Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, moving headquarters to Houston. Our Seaport industry diversifies.

Additionally, Banorte, Mexico’s biggest finance company, is already in the process of moving it’s US headquarters to Houston, having barely announced the move.

Interesting to see who else plans to take advantage of the covid driven access to office space.

Can't wait until we see from a company non-energy related that "<insert company> is opening/moving operations in Houston which will bring 500+ jobs".

Like Banorte moving here is cool, but their office will have like 30 people. Houston needs some bigger impact relocations to make a dent in perception and diversification. Hopefully there's a big move out there coming but this new remote world might change some of that.

In fact, this might be an area where Houston should target. The company may be elsewhere but the employee lives in Houston due to costs/family, which is still beneficial to the economy obviously.

I see what you’re saying, but the Banorte move isn’t just about the 30 employees they’re bringing. They already had hundreds of employees here and had a lot more operation here than in New York. If not Houston, the company would have Atleast been in better position in a Dallas, San Antonio, California or Arizona. Those “30 employees” aren’t just a few openings. They’re the board of directors and such a large financial company having their head here makes them more likely to invest more here. Just like BBVA did since they chose Houston as the head of BBVA USA. BBVA started their Houston headquarters simple and then expanded it into hundreds of jobs.

Recently, the Uptown area has turned into a financial hub with most of the large financial firms here placed there. Previously, it was Downtown which had momentum decades ago but for whatever reason didn’t fully thrive there. Since then the Uptown area has taken over as the financial district here, and with available space and room to grow, when you see companies move here it’s relief to be headed to the right direction.

Yes, and Great Lakes Dredging is going to hire a lot of people once projects like the widening of the Houston Ship Channel takes place , not to mention the Coastal barrier they are proposing to run from Freeport to Sabine Pass and possibly beyond. I'm sure taking advantage of those up coming projects had something to do with their relocation here.

South Korea based VGXI just broke out on a campus in Conroe.

Seems like Conroe is outpacing the rest of Houston suburbs.
