Link is below. It breaks down how whites vote by county. Houston white are more Republican than even OKC, Jacksonville, or Colorado Springs. It was kind of a shock to see, but given how prominent the O&D industry is in this area, Im not surprised:

I'd like to see a chart that ranks the counties or Metro areas by percentage of white voters who voted for Obama. Or a search section would be nice where we could just type in the county. I have big fingers and it's hard to get the finger to land on the county I'm trying to find. I can't get the map to enlarge.

The differences are negligible between Harris county vs Duval, Oklahoma, and El Paso counties (Jacksonville, Oklahoma City, and Colorado Springs, respectively). Overall, it doesn't really look much different from much of the South (sans Florida).

Harris County is a large county, lots of suburbs in addition to Houston. Meanwhile, most of the other high white-for-Obama percentage areas in the South all are concentrated in very small counties centered around the city (Orleans Parish, Travis County, etc); outside the city, and the percentages drop like a rock. Harris County, if it was shrunk in size to be centered on Houston (or if Houston held the vast majority of the county's population), then the white voter percentage would definitely go up (and by a significant amount).

Central/South Florida; very few counties drop below 40% of the white vote. It seems that despite having a white population atypical of the South (Catholic religion, descended from French Canadian population), Southern Louisiana doesn't really vote much differently than other areas of the South.

Its pretty different. Harris County is only 3% less Republican (among whites) than Collin County. Think about that. Tarrant County is almost exactly in line with Harris County in this regard and Tarrant County has a higher ratio of suburb to city than Harris County. In Dallas and Atlanta, whites are much more likely to vote blue.

I've already explained here:

The counties of Dallas and Atlanta are smaller in area than Harris county, and their populations are more concentrated/focused in their cities. If Harris county were shrunk to be more centric on the city, then the % goes up, as the proportionality of liberal white voters (places like Montrose) goes up.

I'm crunching the numbers and you're about to see why that explanation holds no water.

No it doesn't and the numbers I posted prove that. Among white voters, Greater Houston is, by far, the most Republican of the bunch. Thats including all voters among all counties in the metro areas of all 4 major metro areas in Texas.
