True but it's unfair to compare it to NY. There isn't anything similar to a NY in this country. Not even Chicago or San Francisco. Also, I agree with the other poster that it should form an identity on its own.

Houston has no identity...that's the problem

we raze historical areas, fight anything progressive and you expect to put retail in an area to flourish 24/7 when there's hardly anyone to live there? We're not talking about empty nesters, you need families to root and with the way they've outpriced the working class, won't happen anytime soon.

I see that Houston is building thousands of units in downtown. Most of those are rental but I see they broke ground on a Condo earlier this season. That will help significantly. The residential in surrounding neighborhoods such as East Downtown and Midtown as well as areas west of Downtown will also help the general area in create a very large and vibrant section of the city. I think the decentralization and of course sprawl hurts downtown.

Well they can start and try to develop their own identify and not try and emulate the identity of another city.
