After doing some web research and insightful feedback from the forum members (thanks modster, jjp), my wife and I are focusing on a few specific areas in Houston for a house (budget $325K - $350K).

What do you think of Sherwood Park Circle (West Spring Branch I believe) area (community) and First Colony (Sugarland) from the perspectives of commute (to Galleria/downtown), low crime, good community (child-friendly). Is the property tax more than Houston average here?

I will also apprecaite if you suggest any other area. In addition to the above criteria, we are also looking for newish house (5 year or less old) with good resale potential.

I do not know anything specifically about Sherwood Park, though it's in an area not far from where I used to work several years ago. I think it's a good area, but maybe someone else here knows for sure?

We currently live in First Colony in Sugar Land. We absolutely love it. However, it does give you a little more of a commute to the Galleria and downtown. But Sugar Land is really it's own little town, with a town center and everything. It also has zoning Houston does not, which makes things look nicer.

But back to inside Houston, I'm sure there are probably several areas around Memorial that would meet your needs.
