Good day, I am first time home owner looking to buy home in South Katy,

In terms of value of money vs paying taxes what do you think will be best value

a) buying a home which is build around year 2000 plus minus
b) buying a brand new home in newer development of Katy?

My budget is around 300 to 350 K and need a 3000 plus SQ ft home
Appericate pro cons of both options
Regards,

Hands down (a), you lose money on a brand new house the moment you 'drive it off the lot' competing with the new build next door. People who didn't believe that in 2013/14 know it now.

New build usually means a lessor location too.

New home will be much more energy efficient, but may not have established schools. Amenities will be newer but not as abundant.

Old home will probably need updating, but doable in your budget. Neighborhood will be established, but may be less young families (which may or may not be a consideration for you).
