My husband and I are moving to the Woodlands and are trying to decide on which house to buy before we get there. In that regard we are taking into consideration the elementary schools as we will need one in a few years.
We have used childrenatrisk.org to help stratify which schools are better and are at a bit of a dilemma....ALL of the schools in the Woodlands are good to great and we would like to purchase a home in the top 5-7 elementary school districts (as listed on childrenatrisk.org).

Questions:
Do houses in "better" elementary school districts have a higher value, sell quicker...etc or is there really no discernible difference between the schools (say between Hailey and Galatas) that should influence where I buy a house

This is very difficult as we both love some of the houses in Grogans mill, but there seem to be better ratings for the schools in other Villages.

Please assume that budget is not an issue for the above.

Thank you all so much!

Moved from NY to The Woodlands earlier this year.

The Woodlands has 2 school districts, Conroe ISD and Tomball ISD. Both are good, Conroe ISD is slightly better.

Individual school zoning won't effect home values too much, because all the schools (especially in Conroe ISD) are good.

Congrats on deciding to move -- we love it here and are sure you will too.

Grogans Mill schools are pretty good. I like that schools is 77380 are little more "economically diverse". The same goes for College Park High. The back of TW is more pretentious.

Also,
do you think there is a discernible difference between Creedside Forest or David Elementeray school vs Lamar or Haliey Elementary?

It is difficult for us because we want to buy a house in a location that would afford the best education for our children.

Thank you for your help!!!

People really don't differentiate the schools in TW much. All Conroe ISD schools in TW are pretty good. Tomball ISD in TW is little different (Creekside) not that great, but Conroe is regarded as very good district in general, with TW schools- great. You would not do bad with any TW schools. Every school has some recognition. Example, I think that College Park High is better than TW High with all kind of programs for science. But they are pretty much comparable. Look for CISD schools in TW and you'll be good with schools. Good luck.

Hi,

I grew up in The Woodlands and attended schools from kindergarten-12th grade. The public schools zoned to CISD(I don't know anything about the new tomball ISD zoning) are all going to be very good. The home prices and market does not revolve around the schools in the Woodlands. You will be totally fine as long as you purchase in The Woodlands and are zoned to the schools!

I suggest you look at the statistics on schooldigger.com. It will list the standardized test score, demographics, and percentage of students on reduced or free lunch and other details. Then, talk to your realtor and any friends you have in The Woodlands. Residents with elementary-school aged kids certainly don't consider all the elementary schools in The Woodlands to be equal. People with elementary school kids that bought in certain parts of The Woodlands before they had kids, do in fact move within The Woodlands to be able to send their kids to better chools in the district here. It would start a revolution if any one of us started to list the "better" or "preferred" schools in The Woodlands here on this forum. It wouldn't be pretty! (I've seen that disaster on neighborhood facebook pages I can opine that Coulson Tough is highly desirable. Now, who's to say ten years down the road the school would be viewed the same. Rankings and desirablity do tend to change overtime. Good luck!

The most desirable schools are Galatas, Coulson Tough, Deretchin, Buckalew, Powell, David, and Bush ( Very slightly less desirable).

Somehow I seriously doubt anyone's child will receive an inferior location anywhere in The Woodlands unless there's a specialized desired academic program located at only certain schools. Aren't we splitting hairs here?
