East Carolina BBQ has the best Pulled Pork sandwiches and vinegar sauce. Texas had the best ribs and chicken.

Stop it. Stop it now. You're making me hungry and I can't get that (not the real thing) here. You're making me want to go back to NC. Shut up.

Let me ask a question though...

HAR.com...

Is it for real ? Are all those houses REALLY that cheap ?

Example...

6307 Ballina Meadows Ct, Katy, TX 77449-2605 - Bear Creek Meadows Sec 3 Katy

Is this house REALLY $124k ?????

edit: omg... the taxes are also only $1,244.65

Bear Creek Meadows is full of foreclosures. I'd stay away from the 77449 area in general unless you know what you're doing.

Try 77084 (with discretion), 77493, 77494, 77450, 77094.

On but you can make it! Recipes all over the net. Basically it just takes a day devoted to roasting a pork shoulder. I do it once a year and have everyone over, usually mid April. I get the smoker going too for the ribs and brisket for those sqeamish types.

I don't have the patience to make the Carolina Slaw though.
But, with the Peach tree I just planted, hopefully I'll be able to get some cobbler going this year. The peaches are already the size of a quarter.

I know, just finding a decent shoulder (not too fatty) can be a challenge.

KFC sells a workable substitute for the slaw.

Just bribe the counter guy at Pete's Fine Meats a few weeks in advance, he'll get you one.

It really isn't all that time consuming to make. If the chopping and shredding is getting to you, just use the chopped cole slaw mixes from the grocery store. The real secret is the mayonnaise, though. You HAVE to use Duke's mayonnaise, which I'm so happy to hear it's being sold at Central Market.

Oh heavens...home-made peach cobbler. You are a lucky person, with your peach trees. Here's hoping you have a wonderful harvest!

I was just using that as an example, searching through Har.com I noticed that there are probably over 100 houses like that one in the area for under 125k. Is that normal ?

125k in Nashville, You'll be lucky to be able to afford a crackhouse...

If you are moving - it might be wise to figure out where you are going to be working and then make a decision about what side of town to live on. There are very nice & safe areas virtually on all sides of Houston (you have to know which ones) and the commute can be unbearable if you move NW and work SE or vice versa -- so best to find a place central to the employment of the family members. Just a suggestion. If you are renting first though - that will give you plenty of time to find a job and then think about the neighborhoods you like.

Yeah, we're renting first and foremost but our decision to move to Texas is based on the housing market, so I just wanted to make sure that the prices on HAR.com were legitimate...
