The only way around not paying the rental company special fee's is to stop and pay the toll yourself. I personally would pay the special fee to avoid this. Depending on the time of day and which toll location, you will be sitting in a long line to pay yourself. You would be eligible for an EZ Plate if you were a current EZ Tag holder. This is what I do when I come back to Houston to visit family. I grew up in Houston and have been an EZ Tag holder for eons.
