My wife and I have a 16 month old kid and are moving to Houston in September and are looking for safe places to rent near downtown. My work is right in the heart of downtown and we would love to rent within biking distance or a 5-10 minute drive. Our budget is around $1,500. I've researched some apartments in midtown but I've also read a lot of reviews saying that midtown is not safe and full of kids just out of college that are constantly drunk, loud, and leaving their trash and pet feces everywhere.

I'm looking for a safe and relatively quiet apartment in downtown Houston. I know I'm describing a suburb but it would be nice to get off work and not have a long commute especially when I will have to work 60+ hours a week the first three months of the year.

Any suggestions would be great!

Look around the Astrodome and Med center areas along the light rail line. Midtown is overated/overpriced and has tons of traffic and noise.

Check out the complexes along the bike trail to the Heights from Downtown.

Museum District has almost as good access to Downtown and better access to the Hermann Park and the Museums. There are some nice looking apartments right around the Children's Museum that I think would be in your price range. The Children's Museum has a great play area for toddlers, the MFAH actually has a lot of children's programs like storytime and crafts.
