what are some good parks to take kids to play in Houston,TX? We are new to Texas and we love it here so much because of the diversity and we love how everyone usually gets along no matter what skin color they are. If you could give me the name to the biggest mall in Houston, that would be awesome too. Thank you and have a blessed day. if you had a bad day, think of something good and keep you're head up

The Galleria is the most famous mall in Houston.

As for parks, Hermann Park in the Museum District and Discovery Green in Downtown are the big two.

However there are many neighborhood parks you may enjoy too.

Lots of schools in the area are part of the Spark Program, which is a non profit group that works with schools to help turn their recess area and playgrounds into public parks during non school hours.

From their website:

"While all of the parks are different, a typical park consists of modular playground equipment, a walking trail, benches, picnic tables, trees, an outdoor classroom, and a public art component."

They have list of schools that are part of the program, there are a bunch so one or more should be near you.

Hermann Park is the most family oriented of the big parks. It has the Zoo and a miniature train that runs around the perimeter. During the warmer months they do a lot of children's shows at Miller Outdoor Theater. The Museum of Natural Science (dinosaurs, mummies, outer space stuff, etc.) is right on the park's border and the Children's Museum is just a block north.

Check out the Arboretum by Memorial Park for good nature trails for "hiking". Great place to bring your dogs if you have.

It's just inside 610 at Memorial.

Yes, it is and if you do go there, go visit the nature center and see the Monarch Way Station that our girl scout troop helped to build and maintain.

There's a new park called Evelyn's Park inside the loop on Bellaire. Will be a mini Discovery Green when it's completed.

Memorial City mall has a designated play area for kids, some arcade game consoles , a movie theatre, an indoor train/wagon . But beware or the Hispanic kids, they are not politically correct and play very rough..
It has very large parking and not often crowded. Decent food courts. You have an ice rink that opens at specific times.

Theres also a huge park near Eldridge parkway/Clay Road. Lots of open spaces for outdoor activities.

Hermann park is the most beautiful . You have zoo, boating and nice trails. ( Its sad to see that with minimal lights even during Christmas though )

Galleria is biggest but its a pain to get in and out and find parking. Too much traffic and noise. The food courts are crowded most of the time.

Galleria is the biggest mall. Memorial city is second in my opinion. Both are crowded.

Both have dedicated kids play areas. The memorial city seems to always be crowded, but I liked the Galleria one. Also seems better suited for all ages of kids. If you don't mind the traffic.
