I sold my car on Craigslist. The guy paid cash and I gave him the title and bill of sale.
Since the car was not for him, he did not sign the title right away, so he drove away with the car.
I removed the car from the insurance and filed online the vehicle transfer notification (DPS of Houston TX).
I have no reason to think he is dishonest, but I forgot to scan his ID, so I'm not sure about his identity.
Am I liable if something funny happens with the car? Thanks

Is his name and address on the bill of sale? If it is, I wouldn't worry about it.

Scan his ID as in taking a picture of it or checking his name to match the name given for the bill of sale? I don't think it's necessary to make a copy of someones ID, but I would check to make sure the person purchasing the vehicle is the same as the bill of sale.

Was the registration sticker and license plates removed? If not, the new owner could be running through tolls and you might be responsible for them.

Other than that, everything that was done looks solid.

Unfortunately I did not check his ID and left the licence plates on the car.
It was my first car sale.
What can I do?
