Texan_176 i got your message mixed up was trying to respond to you regarding crime. Thanx for your input these are the kind of things that I need to know. Realtors mentioned zip codes because some places had areas to avoid. Can anyone help with zip codes. I do not care how nice the houses are if they are near high crime areas I would not be interested in them.

Look at Techchip. They're even building a whole other high rise tower in the Energy Corridor or EC as it's often referred to in here. It's mostly oil and gas in that area, but they all need IT people.

EC area is 77079. All of South Katy is nice, you don't need a zip to weed out any bad areas.

Texan_176 consider yourself blessed if the worst thing that you experienced was the potholes. Although i agree they are a major concern and will TEAR YOUR CAR UP! With the economy being so bad in Detroit crime has gotten worse than rumored. I can say our saving grace is probably the cold weather, because it keeps the criminals (and everyone else) indoors. But when the weather warms up the crime triples. If something good doesn't happen for MI soon I cna only predict it will get worse. I am planning my escape now! :-)

Thank you easily amused i will concentrate on South Katy! How are schools and property taxes? Do the houses have basements? Haven't seen any with basements on line, but i understand that you all experience tornadoes like we do in midwest. What kind of cover do people take if tornado warning if no basements?

Want to avoid those areas too :-). Some of the homes pictured would run around 800,000 or better in area I live in. Can't afford that! whats that area like?

I wouldn't live that far up 290 unless you have job lined up in that area. It's got to be the worst commute in Houston. Just do a search on it. I think this board has nominated the Worst Highway is Houston. It could be two hours easy to Downtown.

Houston is HUGE. There are so many areas to it. It's really better to have an idea where you want to work and then get the house. Otherwise you could find yourself in that same commute situation

I would try to locate a realtor. Stress strongly what you want. Short commutes, diversity, safe and schools. Sugarland and Katy have all those things and would be my personal short list.

Have you searched HAR.COM?

If FBI crime statistics are to be believed, Sugar Land is supposedly one of the safest cities in America:

Zip requests response. 77094 is the older and more Eastern section of Katy, which cuts commute times. It can have lots of trees. Green Trails is a really nice section that you could find in your category. Great schools.
