Hi just curious what people thoughts are of having never left Houston and spending your whole life here. Houston has seems to have everything you need. Anyone regret not leaving when they could or looking to leave just for the sake of going somewhere new? If not, then what are some unique reasons for staying put.

Not native. And I've gotten out - backpacked through about 20 countries. But I can see why someone would never venture out if they loved strip malls and breakfast tacos.

To some roots are important. Family ties, friendships and familiar surroundings are comforting.

I think where you're from is where you're from--it's important. I know some native Houstonians and some people who are transplants, but I always find a person's background story interesting. If it were in the job market cards, I might still be living in rural southwest Michigan and continue to have lots of friends there. Also, what Petey said is very true. Having family and close friends around is in many instances a boon.

I'll state - for the record - that I definitely regret moving away from Houston. I know that's the opposite of the thread subject, but I want to point out that it's led to dismal results, with lots of homesickness and realizing afterwards what all I had and gave up. If I could only turn back time...

When I moved, I thought it made a lot of sense, and that thought I was moving forward. It seemed crazy to live in one spot for decades, and most of one's life. Now, it makes complete sense to me, and is not issue/problem whatsoever.

I think anyone that's a Foodie or enjoys high quality food would never leave Houston.

The restaurants in Houston are far superior to New York or California. People can crap all over Houston but their food has impeccable standards by comparison

Most of the people I know who moved away came back in 2-3 years. The only one I know who did not move back simply can't because his circumstances force him to live near the Canadian border. He still misses certain things about Houston, however.

These are over statements. Houston is more strip mall based than New York, but it's no more strip mall based than Miami or LA for example. And while Houston has great breakfast tacos, it has mastered nearly every cuisine there is.

No it hasn't. Food here is great... and even suburban places can whip some inner loop spots In terms of quality and taste, due to the inner loop mass production thing. And I am not a suburb guy. But truth be told there are many cuisines that Houston is lacking in.
