Well despite getting more than it's fair share of haters, there is some love for Galveston out there, proving there is more than just sand and sea to the city -- Southern Living magazine names Galveston to best islands list | abc13.com

I'm guessing the Russians tampered with the results.

Even though I don't have Tx or Texas in my user name, I'm glad Galveston made the list and tired of the haters.

I like Galveston a lot - it has some good food, attractions, history and nightlife. It's a fun way to spend a day.

What "haters" like me object to is telling people from out of this area that Galveston has nice beaches. It doesn't. They're objectively not nice compared to the rest of the country's standard.

See what distractors of the beaches in Galveston don't seem to get is that the beaches in Galveston push all the buttons one needs for a completely satisfying beach experience. There are nicer beaches, this is true, but Galveston is a nice beach in its own right, and is umpteen times better than having no beach at all. And no, some sand on a lake shore or reservoir shore is not a beach.....

In reality, Galveston is a beautiful beach in disguise.

Galveston has its charms. One has to go into it not expecting to have the typical beach experience, but the charms are there. It's a coastal, beach town with all of the accompanying culture and lifestyle. That in itself is kind of fun to be a part of.

Southern Living would have been better served by picking SPI, Port Aransas or even Surfside. The beaches are better and the towns and homes are better cared for and maintained.

Nope. Pay attention to the article, and you will see why Galveston was chosen.
