How long before UH enters flagship status or will that ever happen? I don't know about Stanford or Yale level, but could you guys see it as a BU, NYU or U.Chicago. The last one is a stretch but 'eh.

No. Every one of the institutions you have listed above are Top 40 nationally (I'm assuming your "BU" above is Boston University). US News has University of Chicago ranked as #3 nationally. In Texas, only Rice is remotely comparable to Chicago, and even that's a stretch because Rice lacks professional schools, like Medicine and Law.

When I think of the institutions UH is on par with, I think of a lot of the other schools in its athletic conference- University of Louisville and Cincinnati, for example.

I just meant in the next two decades after all the investments into the school pay off. As of now it is a lot like the schools you listed although, given that Houston is the fourth largest city, it does give it an edge. Basically what is it shooting for?

Not even in 2 decades, or likely ever. That's just my opinion. Within the state of Texas, it can be on par with Tech and Baylor, I think. I think it's vastly and incredibly improved over the past decade. It has very good leadership right now (though I wonder how long they will be able to keep the current President) and a very active BOR thanks to Tillman Fertitta.

I don't know the answer to that bolded part, does it have a vision for the future? It's really easy to climb up initially, but as you get higher and the air gets thinner, your advancement slows down and more people are throwing barrels in front of you, kwim?

Did attend UH main for a while. I personally don't like the idea of paying a speaker so much, but I completely understand why some people are for this. My only actual objection is, why him? Nothing against him, but I feel like it would make more sense to get a famous, successful alumni to speak, I'm assuming such a large school would have a number of them, or at least someone known more for his or her academic/intellectual contributions and achievements. Not to say Schwarzenegger isn't intelligent or something, just that he isn't known for that side of him.

That's what happens when you literally screw over a Kennedy. Probably why he's only going for 40K, which is a veritable bargain in the speech for hire world.
