Hello Everyone,

I live in So Cal and will be visiting Kingwood in a couple of weeks to check out property. Can anyone give me all the bad about the Kingwood area. I will have 3 kids in school (high, middle and elementary) I will NOT have to commute to work. The cost of living here is crazy! It appears I could afford a nice house in Kingwood. Also, I do not have to live right in Kingwood (but would like something close), I love the wooded areas. Is there a big bug and mesquito problem? I am looking for a place for our family to enjoy that has things the kids can do. How are the school? Will the kids get the cold shoulder for being an out of stater? Is there a drug problem there? Does it cool down at all in the summer at night? Any info would be appreciated.....thank you.

Schools are excellent by most standards, bugs and heat are going to be about as bad as you can imagine. Yes, it does cool down at night, in November through March.
I doubt very seriously there would be any issues with being an out of stater, Native Texans are probably a very slim minority in Kingwood. Houston overall is very welcoming to new-comers, most people here are not originally from here.
Kingwood is a beautiful place, I am more of a "city-person" myself and I tend to prefer the pace and other aspects of the city. If you are looking for a more suburban environment I think you would be very pleased with Kingwood.

The only 'bad' I can really say about Kingwood is that everyone I knew from Kingwood at the University of Texas was into drugs to some degree or another. Of course, they were all very bright, you have to be to get into UT...but there was a much higher incidence of drug use from seemingly 'All-American' kids who went to Kingwood than anywhere else. That may not be the case anymore, but that was my experience.
