I drove down Beechnut yesterday and was surprised to see a new charter high school going up right next to Davy Crockett Jr High (FBISD) in Richmond.

Thats actually a good location for one and gives parents another option for education, considering that Grand Mission Estates/Grand Mission and those new neighborhoods on Harlem Rd are going to be zoned to Bush HS, which is failing academically.

Beechnut will have to be upgraded because no way that two lane rd will be able to handle all that traffic during school hours.

if Bush is failing...that proves it ain't an abundance of multifamily living to bring it down...its bigger issues

what will the charter school accomplish? just pluck the best away?

This particular charter school concentrates on languages.

Each year, students must brainstorm a service project and pitch it to their classmates to plan and execute.

All students in high school in the US should do that. Not all students, however, are speaking English as their first language so that makes sense in this context - if the kids speak Spanish or Chinese, as their first language they need to Master English as well.
