Hey all!! We're moving to Houston from Southern CA, and would love recommendations on specific cities/subdivisions/communities to move to. Looking for a beautiful area, great to raise kids, and lots of diversity! Don't want to live anywhere with flooding problems, tornados, or crime problems. What areas are your favorite, or would you love to live??

We both work from home, so commute will not be an issue.

Also, any feedback on these areas?
- Missouri City
- Pearland
- Cypress
- Prestonwood Forest
- Katy
- Alief
- Sugarland

THANKS!!

Your timing is not good. We're fresh off a troll.

What is your budget? If you both work from home, why are you moving to Houston?

Sorry!! Yes...not Houston, I guess I should've said suburbs outside of Houston. Although would like to be fairly close to the city for museums and such.

We're looking to move because real estate market is insane in California, and we are just over it all. Our friends just bought out in Woodlands, and we visited last month. Really loved the change of pace, affordability of homes, the people, food, etc!!

We'll be renting 1st, so something under $1800 would be nice..so we can save more vs. what we are currently paying. After we'll want to buy, and ideal budget range is $300-$450k.

Sugarland it is. It checks off everything on your list including diversity which I assume is why your not considering The Woodlands. Cross Alief off the list due to crime issues...

Yes, the Woodlands didn't have much diversity...and as a young black family, we'd like our kids to grow up seeing lots of diversity, including other black families.

I'd say, Sugar Land, followed by Pearland, which both have (relatively) easy access into Houston, lots of diversity, great for raising families. Sugar Land has better amenities within the community, however, so it gets the edge.

You didn't mention travel, but if you fly frequently, Pearland is much closer to Hobby Airport (our smaller airport, where Southwest flies). Both cities are on the opposite side of town from our big airport (IAH).

Thanks for the advice!!

Travel is not too much of an issue, we have no problem driving 45min to an hour to fly from LAX out here. Even though we have a local airport to us, LAX has better deals on flights and does international.
