"Residents of the Eagles Cove subdivision said changing the property from an office park space to a community shopping center would have a negative impact on the neighborhood." So the news article has a misleading headline. The nearby residents are not just objecting to the Chick-Fil-A, they are objecting to the parcel of land being rezoned to a usage that has a higher negative impact on them. I totally understand this, as my neighbors and I continue to deal with this type of issue on Pearland's west side.

Another resident, Miriam Sam, said a new fast food restaurant would not be a good fit for an "affluent and educated community."

"Our residents are not going to work at Chick-fil-A," Sam said.

I agree that statement is nonsense.

BS. That area always had and always will have people willing to work there.

So Miriam Sam is implying there are no teenagers in Friendswood? Because the Chick-Fil-As I frequent (Bella Terra, Greatwood, Rosenberg, Cinco Ranch) seem to be staffed largely by high school-aged individuals.

Or, you know, Miriam has self-induced medial cranial rectum syndrome and is speaking on a position of authority from that viewpoint.

Many people who move to friendswood do so get a small town environment while
On the edge of everything they need. They endeavor to restrict to individual
Owned businesses when and where they can and create somewhat of a uniqueness devoid of the glut of chains and and commercial retail that have grown like crazy everywhere. Pearland has grown too fast and before needed infrastructure was in place. While it's a good place to live, they are feeling their growing pains. Some parts of league city are following that path. I can see why friendswood would like to avoid that type growth. For a few others it's snob appeal to make broad statements that their residents Wouldn't work there.
