Moved from Tustin, CA about 3 years ago. Wife wanted to start a business here, also to be able to buy a nice house and not worry about $$. Things have been great for us in Houston and we've been really blessed but I miss Cali so much. I lived in OC for over 30 years and I find myself thinking about it almost everyday. All of my family and friends are there so the adjustment to living in new state is quite difficult.

This is how I look at it

Houston attracts poor population of NY Chicago and California. I have yet to see any rich people from these states in Houston.

Houston offers very affordable cheap living. but it is far from offering quality of life. very far

If I were rich I would never leave California

Two reasons
I got tired of discrimination against people that speak Spanish (people looking at me funny when I was speaking Spanish with my son that was a toddler)
and got tired of cold weather

that was almost 10 years ago

I moved back from teaching overseas and had to start from scratch in terms of finding a job. I liked that Texas didn't/doesn't have a state income tax, plus I'd get away from snow, depending on where in the state I moved to. Also, rental prices were around the same at that time between Denver and Austin. Thus, I moved to Austin, then moved to Houston for more job opportunities and better pay potential. :-)

Moving due to new job. Planning on staying 4.5 years until I retire. Not crazy about moving to houston other than weather (moving from ohio), and will be making more money to boost my pension. Hate that houston has a roach problem, and such a big city, maybe I could like it more.

That's kinda the way nature works, the bugs prefer the warmer weather as well.....

You make it sound as if northern states don't have bugs
