Driving around, I notice many out of state license tags from California, Illinois and Florida in addition to Louisiana (which you might expect). If you are from out of state, what were your motivations for moving to Houston area?

My wife got a job here and then I did, too. I'm from Michigan but we moved to Houston via Buffalo. We've been here almost 5 years.

Move back here 2 years ago after 15 years away living in multiple other states, as well as elsewhere in Texas. Came back primarily to be close to aging parents.

Very happy to be close to family and friends again. But, we were very happy everywhere we've lived for different reasons in each place. I think happiness is mutually exclusive of where you live.

I too have been happy every place I have lived. Still, I've been happier in some places more than others.

Yes, agreed. If only we could pick bits and pieces of everyplace we've lived and combine them into the perfect location, right?

Came to Houston on a job offer. 5 years previous in San Antonio. I left "home" for a lot of reasons. Weather and a poor economy. The wages didn't keep up with the COL. A lot of people would think I was crazy to leave Oregon, "its so pretty". Working 6 days a week and just scraping by on what used to be good wages is not a good motivator. Houston has its down sides like anywhere else. I found a "nice" neighborhood near work and I am set up for awhile anyway. My income goes further here and I enjoy the weather. I enjoy the diversity of people here.

General Consensus seems to be that ppl come here for Job Offers (myself included). You mean it's not the weather or traffic?!!

Job offer. I can't imagine there are many other reasons someone would choose Houston specifically. We didn't actively search for an opportunity to leave our prior state of Illinois but leaving the cold weather behind was certainly a bonus.
