OP, I hope you can ignore the small-mindedness and negativity that anonymous fora inevitably attract. Welcome to Houston! I hope you find a great neighborhood that lets you appreciate the incredible cultural diversity of Houston.

There have been some good suggestions in here, from Sugar Land to Meyerland. I would add that if you stay anywhere within Beltway 8 you are most likely to encounter that diversity (of cultures, backgrounds, and attitudes). In my experience, the further you go from the core of the city, the smaller the minds become. (Just a general observation, not true of everyone, like most of the garbage that's already been said here.)

True,
Houstons diversity and acceptance of different cultures is amazing

I'll tell you something funny that happened to me the other day
I was driving for a while on a road behind a car and after a while I noticed that it had a bumper sticker that said something like:
"Honk if you want to get your a... kicked"
Right away I think: "I bet is some stupid redn...k"

When I was passing I looked to see who was driving the car .... it was a Muslim family
Damn, I'm still laughing about that

And also Anthony Weiner's wife Huma Abedin, though now he's divorcing him

Those are the relatively secular, "Muslim in name only" families that mirror urban liberal "Christians in Name Only" - I think liberals hope that Muslims will become more like them.

Then you have families who are more religious or those who become more religious after arriving. How many religious Muslims allow their daughters to date non-Muslims?

It's interesting because her marriage to Weiner was supposed to be against fundamentalist Islam, and she doesn't wear hijab. Maybe her family has a belief the brahmins are allowed to do it but the small folk aren't?
