I am curious if anyone in Houston area or Katy/Sugar Land successfully opted out and replaced smart meters with traditional meters?
I'm not discussing here whether they are bad or not, just want to know if this option is available and with what electricity providers.
Thank you.

I don't think it's an option. I don't see the problem with them.

The meters are owned by Centerpoint. I could be wrong, but I don't think that they would allow anyone to change then. However, call them and ask. The least they can say is no.

You can opt out, but it's expensive, $174-$201 to replace the meter, and $32.80 per month for manual reading. More info here http://www.centerpointenergy.com/en-...x?sa=ho&au=bus

Thanks, I did not know this. About 5 years ago I worked with an electricity company during the evenings and I would always tell the customers that they couldn't change back to their old meters. I remember Centerpoint was still in the process of changing out old meters then too. They really are more convenient since an actual person no longer has to go read the meter physically.

I opt out, paid the money for the meter exchange, pay extra each month for the reading of the meter and I still have all the health issues. It did not go away. The RMF waves from the homes in my area are still affecting my health . Save your money. I will have to move from this area.

I'm just gonna leave this here

Or, don't read and just get rid of your cellphone and wi-fi, and go move to a remote mountaintop or something.

These things use a very low power mesh technology. You ought to worry about city workers who are underneath nearby megawatt (effective radiated power) FM radio and TV transmitter antennas on the skyscrapers.

I remember when I lived in Atlanta, GA there was an AM station, 50,000 watts, with its antenna in a strip center parking lot. Horrors !

There's lots of health data out there on "non-ionizing" RF radiation. But it is not interesting since it does not generate panic.

I have read many stories of people over the years - who supposedly DO have health issues from these meters. They supposedly did not have symptoms until after the meters were installed.

We don't know everything - so, it is possible that they are causing issues for some
