Just thought I'd let everyone know that I've had 2 consecutive years of success in reducing the HCAD appraised value of my home with appealpropertytax.com.

This year was a big win, with a 12% reduction. I pay them 40% of my tax savings for this service.

I know the topic comes up on here a lot, so I'll just say that so far, I have had only good experiences with them. They were only unsuccessful the very first year, and I assume that is because we had just bought the house.

Hi Pedro!

I have used them too for one of the properties this year. I called them up and they said they got everything for the hearing. I didn't hear anything back from them after that. I would like to know how do I know if the property tax has indeed been reduced? and how did they invoice you? Do they send a bill?

They sent a bill last week with a copy of the statement from HCAD showing the reduced value. Same way last year -- I heard from them before I heard from HCAD. They should send you something either way (even if yours isn't reduced).

I second this... I've been using them for about 4 years now. I just got my invoice this past weekend since they were able to reduce from 337K to 320K in valuation.

TexasTony: in my experience, it is usually just silence for a while and then a letter from them shows up in the mail. I could be wrong, but i think they might post a general status on their website.

I like how they operate. I didn't check their website in last 3 months. I submitted details online. Made a follow-up call and was told not to worry about the hearing. Then after 3 months I get their invoice with the end result. So far I am satisfied and can recommend them to anyone.

So you pay them upfront 40% of the tax reduction for the whole year (for example, 20K reduction, 3% tax -> $600*40% = $240). Is that correct?

But what if the appraised value does not get reduced? Do you still have to pay something?

No, you only pay if there is a reduction, which puts in the onus on them. If they want to make a living doing this service, they have to have some success in doing so
