My husband is extremely cheap and I just found out failed to get extra flood, wind or hurracane insurance. Our house is fully paid for. Are we totally screwed if the worst happens?

If water from the ground enters your house you will likely have to cover the cost yourself. However, I believe there have been times where FEMA covered costs for people who were not insured. If you have not flooded in the past you are likely going to be fine.

But flood insurance is pretty inexpensive. Might want to purchase it in the future.

Well I think you're more at risk of a divorce or him cheating than you flooding if you think of him that way but yeah, if you flood you're screwed.

What do you mean by "extra" flood, wind or hurricane insurance?

Yeah I think you're right about FEMA being able to help her. It's just sad that the help is going to be wasted on someone who is just trying to be cheap when it should be used on those who actually can't afford flood insurance.

I bought flood insurance even though I'm not in a flood zone. Hate to pay for it, but I wasn't going to take a chance because you never know what might happen. Just because your area never flooded doesn't mean it can't. If the predictions are correct, we will get so much rain from Harvey that more people might have flooding in their neighborhood.

Even though I have insurance, I certainly don't want to experience a flood.
