Hi! I'm moving to Houston, TX in June of 2018. I'll have enough money saved up for the move by then, and I'll be able to move comfortably, but does anyone have any recommendations of suburbs to move to? I won't be too far from The Woodlands area, and the general area of northern, upper Houston. (I may also potentially have to move to the heart of the city, which I am extremely unfamiliar with.) If anyone also has any recommendations for which part of the city is generally best, I would be really glad to hear them!

I have quite a few locations to potentially transfer to, and my employer will know long beforehand about my transferring, and really just need general area ideas right now, as I know my employer is willing to work with me.

I'm not yet 20, but I'm over the age of 18. I will be transferring job locations and will have a steady income. I will likely be alone for a while. Does anyone have any recommendations for good areas to move to? I'm slightly familiar with the city and will be ultimately moving to attend college there.

Where within the Houston area (give specific names/areas) the job location? Houston is huge.

Around The Woodlands area, I believe. I'm sorry for not being specific, let me update my post!

In that case, in terms of amenities, I would recommend no suburb except The Woodlands. You are young and frankly The Woodlands is a family suburb like all others, except they have more amenities. If you lived in the Houston Heights area you could be relatively close to school (depending which school) and have a reasonable drive to work. If you chose to live in The Woodlands, you could go to Sam Houston State in Huntsville (if they offer what you want to study).

Thank you so much! Are apartments easy to get in the area, and is the general nature of The Woodlands a sort of accepting environment? I'm going to study and get a degree in astrophysics (cosmology, to be specific) which is why I am moving to Houston in the first place. Houston is a wonderful environment for STEM fields!

If you are a STEM major, then I would live in Houston closer to Univ of Houston (UH). Sam Houston State is not known for STEM education. It is a long drive from the Woodlands to UH.

Thank you. I really don't have a perspective of how big the city truly is, and it really helps to get advice from people who are familiar with the area. I just hope none of these questions seem too silly, lol. As I know it, the cost of living in Houston is definitely a lot larger than it would be in The Woodlands area. Are there sections of the city that are cheaper than others?

I really am not too familiar with the city at all.
