My patio is leaking from the ceiling due to the rains. I am fixing to call the home owners insurance. Will the insurance cover this leak or they somehow call it under flood insurance? I don't have flood insurance. Also I just read that there is a new insurance law effective from 9/1/2017 and new articles suggested to file claims before 9/1. Will this have any impact to my claim? Any suggestions on how to approach the Insurance? The patio cover was recent construction about two years ago attached to existing structure.

Most likely it will be below deductible.
How much was the cost of this patio to build?

Lets say 10K. How much roof repair cost? Maybe 1K max. I don't think home insurance would cover this.
Or you can go on Youtube, spend ~$100 on materials and do it yourself.
