Houston's "BE SOMEONE" graffiti turned into stunning light show - Houston Chronicle

Quote:
Alex Ramos and Billy Baccam of Houston's Input/output digital creative lab used projection mapping to bring the 7-year old piece of art to life. Projection mapping uses "everyday video projectors but instead of projecting on a flat screen (e.g. to display a power point), light is mapped onto any surface, turning common projects of any 3D shape into interactive displays" explained projectionmapping.org

A light show with Houston as a backdrop isn't a new concept. In fact, anyone remember this or at this in the 1980s? May still hold the record for the largest crowd downtown. City severely underestimated crowd size. Took hours to get out of downtown once it ended.

I went to that and remember it well. I was in High School at the time. My most vivid memory was walking back through downtown afterwards and seeing the paper and residue from the fireworks all over the streets. Very unique experience. It was indeed a nightmare getting in and out.

Default Uh...

The Chron likes to exaggerate... "Stunning"? Really? I saw it, not stunning, not for me, I guess I'm not easily impressed. Maybe I don't know what feeling stunned is like? If it was 'stunning', shouldn't I feel stunned? Stunned as with a stun gun? I'd describe it as cool, it was pretty cool looking. But not stunning, sorry Chron.

This is certainly a blast from the past. I was there and what I nightmare it was getting into and out of that event for those who did not know the back streets of Houston.

I viewed the show from the lawn of one of those Bail Bond offices near the HPD Station. It was an interesting night to say the least!

I was in the heart of downtown watching it. I remember cars stopping on 45 and 59 to watch and what a traffic nightmare it created for the city. Now that was a light show.
