Hmmm, native Houstonian here as well. I've heard every permutation of "San Felipe" but in much the same manner as it is simply easier to spell (.) than (period) it is easier for most to say "San Phileep" and seems to be prevalent amongst the less pretentious element of our fine metropolis(.)

I pronounce it San Fuh-leep or San Fuh-lee-pay depending on the mood I'm in at the time.

It's been called San Fil-uh-pee and San Fuh-leep the longest by natives. San Fuh-leep-ay is the newer pronunciation closer to the original Spanish. They're all "correct", if you ask me.

Yup, I'm from the newer generation! San-fuh-leep-ay...I'm guessing METRO has it pronounced wrong in their system (exclamation point a couple of question marks) It's not pretentiously wrong to be hip is it (question mark) :-P

We're only slow if you come from certain areas. We're fast if you've never driven anywhere but Texas. Just road-trip it to different places around the country and you'll quickly find out if you need some extra coffee so you don't get run over.

It's San Fa-leep-ay and San Ja-cin-toe

This isn't San Antonio. It's Houston. And I've lived in both.

I've been in Houston for 3 years now, got another 2 years until my work project here is done. I can tell you that compaired to the west coast, Houstonians drive very slow! I used to think I was on candid camera or something when I used to visit here, and saw all the people driving under the speed limit. I guess because I've always lived out west, that I'll never get used to the slow driving!

If Houston was in the same county as San Antone, would it then become "becks-arr?" I think so. I hope so, anyway.
