I’m going out on a limb here but has anyone or anyone you know ever had luck with filing their homestead exemption late? I purchased my home in August 2016. In 2017 I DID NOT apply for the homestead exemption. So fast forward a year and here I am getting the form ready. On page 1 it asks what year I’m applying for. My natural thought is to put 2018 but I am curious if I can still apply for 2017. I read that I can submit late up until February 1st and well its past that date, but that’s where my original question comes in to play. By the way, I'm in Harris county and is my first home.

Regardless of the fact, any other recommendations when applying for the homestead exemption?

Thanks,
E

I tried to do something similar in Ft Bend County, with no luck. Answer was, sorry file next year.

Not sure if Harris County is better or worse.

Might be worth a call to them to see if a pro-rated portion could be applied.

Generally, you can go back 2 years for HS exemption.
