I am planning to rent a room in someone's apartment or house in Houston as a recent college grad. Is this fairly common in Houston around the Rice/medical center and Kirby/midtown areas? If so, do people usually turn on the AC the whole day for tenants in private rooms?

Thank you.

Maybe this isn't the right forum to ask. I have no idea about renting rooms. I know it's done but no idea about any details. You should check the contract and ask questions before you sign. Having the A/C on when someone is there is something anyone would do. Rarely should the A/C be turned off. Turned up when gone but not turned off completely. Bring up your concerns when you're shopping around.

Hmmm. These types of questions and writing style seem very familiar.

I thought you were going to buy a $600k house.

Brian?

Or Jonathan?

You couldn't be Jonathan because he/she makes over $100k and wouldn't be sleeping in his/her car.
