Does anyone think it's a bad idea to sign up with a company that no one has heard of (Infinite Energy for example). CenterPoint is still running the show, right? So it's not like the company I use will affect power outages, service to restore, etc. Right??

Provider selection has no bearing on service reliability, as CenterPoint still handles all the grid maintenance.

If your provider goes under, you'll automatically be shifted to an expensive month-to-month plan and you'll want to find a new provider asap. But the lights will stay on.

Based on you usage you should probably find a plan that is priced similarly for usage over 2000kwh and 500-1000kwh. If you fall under 500kwh the price will be high but with such low usage the bill won't be dramatic.

WE use over 3000kwh in the hot months and our current bill is about 350. The attached Gexa plan would work for you.

Wouldn't this make it extremely difficult to keep track of payments since you would have to register with those companies and get separate account numbers? It sounds like a lot of trouble and confusion.

Is there anyone here who can help me decipher my bill and tell me why it's so high compared to everyone else? I feel like I have been robbed all these years.

I'm not sure what who to switch to and which plan to go with. I'm afraid to commit on a contract, what if I choose the wrong plan and I'm stuck. I need to choose wisely and it's difficult because I'm not a native here.

I appreciate everyone's response.

Whenever your plan expires Energy Ogre switches you to another plan that presumably is the best plan for you at that time. They register everything for you. They will email info on the new plan and then you approve that new plan. Once you approve, Energy Ogre will register you with the new company and send you a username and temporary password to your account on the new company's website.

It doesn't switch you every time it finds something lower. Only switches you when your plan expires which is typically every 6 months or 1 year.
