I would move to SW Houston past the Brazos near Rosenberg and drive that far every day rather than living anywhere around 290. Then there is going out 290 toward Hockley, I would go out that way and look for an old farmhouse or something that isn't next to neighbors. Personally, I just wouldn't live in Houston unless it's a very gated community with houses that don't sit on top of each other, but I wouldn't have enough money.

psst, DH commutes daily along 290 from Fairbanks/Gessner (near Jersey Village) to Houston Center downtown and it takes 30-35 minutes from driveway to desk during rush hour.

The hype over 290 traffic is much worse than actual 290 traffic, which is no worse than other freeways.

Alief is a dump. You don't want to live there if you can afford not to.

Truth be told, I wouldn't live way across town and commute to another side of town for work, that's foolish to me. I live in NW Houston and I'm no more than a 1-2 mile drive from my job, Willowbrook Mall, bank, gym, several restaurants, etc. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Jersey Village High School is one of the weaker schools in Cy Fair ISD, so its feeder schools are probably weaker as well. Generally it is the case in the Northwest Suburbs that south of 1960 is not as good, especially school-wise, as north of 1960. Like Klein Forest, weakest of the Klein schools.

Oh good grief, how histrionic.

It's now 52.9% free lunch, with 57.2% Hispanic, 18.4% White, and 11.6% Black. In terms of overall Texas high schools it's still ranked highly (about 472/1,797).

Free lunch is meaningless now. Last couple years they made it opt out basically so unless you complained and said you didn't want the free lunch they signed you up. My kid takes his lunch everyday anyhow so I didn't bother to opt him out.
