Houston (zip 77021) violent crime is 74.3. (The US average is 22.7)
Houston (zip 77021) property crime is 80.2. (The US average is 35.4)

Definitely not a good place to raise a family. But if you are young and don't care about dusk or bust as long as there is gold there, go ahead.

I guess?

Riverside Terrace is a small part of 77021

Woodland Heights must be pretty scary too?

I usually call that kind of area Israel: maybe OK by itself, but surrounded by terrorists...
You have to have religious faith to live in an area like that.

Riverside Terrace is part of 3rd Ward. It's one of the nicer parts of 3rd Ward, and I'll go farther and say it could rival River Oaks in terms of prestige one day.

You have to be careful claiming areas in SE Houston are part of 3rd Ward. People in RT and MacGregor, in my work experience, don't want to be labeled as 3rd Ward, as I guess the original political boundaries of 3rd Ward didn't include them - those areas hadn't yet been developed.

Well, that would include South Union, MacGregor Trails, Pine Valley etc. - all of which definitely NOT 3rd Ward. That's all just SE Houston. Your folks are being too fast and loose with the label.

I agree but the 3rd ward moniker was created by the areas next to it and it just grew.

Acres Homes is the same way.

Riverside Terrace has always existed on maps and planning documents, but in common use I never heard people call it that until the last decade or so. When I was younger people would point it out from time to time just because of its unique history (and character compared to a lot of the rest of the area) but it wasn't really considered a separate neighborhood. I personally never say "I'm going to Riverside Terrace" when I go visit friends there, I always just say "I'm going to 3rd ward." And I really don't know anyone who does to be quite honest. The friends I have that live there consider the area 3rd ward, but they've lived there a long time.

It's being played up now more specifically to separate it from 3rd ward and make it more appealing to new buyers with money, imo. It's always been considered a part of 3rd ward until recently, and I should know, I grew up there (well technically on the other side of Scott in the "real" 3rd ward apparently ).

As more and more new residents move into the neighborhood I expect it to continue to press that distinction between it and 3rd ward more and more. And though people in 3rd ward have slightly different definitions (mostly revolving around where the southern extent is), the most common one I've heard throughout my life has been 288/OST/UH-Spur 5-MacGregor Park area/45. That's what people actually from the area consider 3rd ward.

Not even close to what Israel actually is, which makes this post kinda racists.
