Tolls on rebuilt Katy Freeway may double at rush hour | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

Was this just sort of sprung on everybody? I don't recall ever hearing about a toll component on I-10?

Admittedly I wasn't paying much attention to the details of this project, I wasn't aware that there was such a significant tollroad component built into the I-10 project. There's an article in Chronicle stating that four lanes of the newly expanded I-10 are designated toll lanes which may or may not impose 'congestion' pricing when they open this October.

What????? They didn't construct it for tolling that I can see...that is going to make the traffic as bad as it ever was. The new lanes were supposed to help the congestion, not create more of it. They're nuts.

Ok, so that curve that congests traffic at Highway 6 on I-10 East is going to stay, and the straight lanes are the real I-10 lanes? And I agree, how are they going to dump the toll lanes and have the two i-10 lanes feed there at the 610 bottle neck. I am DAMN PERPLEXED.

Dang, I'm glad I live close to work, and then will move 5 minutes from the new building when it's done, without ever hitting a freeway.

I think the piece of the Grand Parkway that just got finished on the far east side is free now, but will be tolled like this starting September. It's not about easing traffic, or safety, but about the money.

As long as it's a hair cheaper to live out there and commute + pay tolls rather than live inside the city, people will be forced to pay it.

Get used to it. I don't think you'll see any more major highway expansions in the area that don't include a toll component.

Welp folks, this is your $3 billion highway reconstruction project that only added 30,000-car capacity to the Katy Freeway when all was said and done.

They should've done commuter rail instead.

There was plenty of room for a rail line too, but some of the moron elected officials (John Culberson) would not help with funding.
