If you say Museum District, then you are definitely an anti-Ashby high rise stuck-up (mostly houses near Jeff Skilling's family home in Southampton).

If you say TMC (mostly apartments and townhouse on the opposte side), then you are definitely a poor medical student looking forward to move to the Museum District which bears it's name, Only for MDs.

They should've buried Jeff Skilling under the Ashby high rise....

But at any rate, both are a further drive from the west beltway than Uptown....I'd consider following tstone's advice of living as close to work as possible. You learn to get around this city by getting around this city, and that's not something people necessarily pick up on right away.

There are some pretty good complexes in the Gessner/Briar Forest area. You'd be no more than a ten minute drive from the Westchase area. The rents are probably a bit higher, however, than west of the Beltway.
