My lawn was killed by sod worm about a year ago. I want to rebuild my lawn. I am looking for the lowest cost solution. I read online that plugs are the cheapest way to go. However, when i compared the prices for sod and plug, I found the sod prices being cheaper. Plugs are about a dollar sqf vs 35 cents per sq foot for sod.
i am confused. Please help.

You don't set the plugs right against each other, you space them out and hope the grass grows between them before the earth spirals into the sun. So "per square foot" doesn't really mean anything in the plug context.

I have done a lot of this. You can tell from my comment above, that I think the plugs are a heck of a lot of work for generally poor results. Yes, eventually, the grass will fill in between the plugs. Some day. Of course, in the mean time you have to water the hell out of it, and the weeds will enthusiastically grow in the open dirt between the plugs, so you will have to be weeding obsessively if you don't want the weeds to choke out the plugs, or at least to throw decades' worth of weed seeds everywhere.

I also see you're in Houston so in addition to the weeds in between all the plugs will be the giant fire ant mounds between all the plugs.

I would strongly recommend biting the bullet and getting the whole damn thing sodded.

And do NOT go to Home Despot for grass sod. Go to a real honest to God grass company that will show up and roll the stuff out like laying a carpet and in half a day they're done. For less money than the Despot will charge.

Plugs yield poor results over large areas. Sod is the way to go.
