New teacher in Florida with a year experience looking to relocate. I would like to hear if it is feasible to arrive and find a job. In Florida you are bound to find a position but I am aware Texas has a higher starting salary. If jobs are not that easy is it reasonable to find any other job until a teaching one becomes available.

This is the prime hiring season now. I'm not sure if your certification will transfer. Contact TEA (you can call and they'll tell you what you need to do). Most likely you will have to take the Texas Certification exam. If you have taught before it should be easy except you do have to know Texas history for the Elementary Content exam. What do you teach in Florida? I would also recommend that you also get an ESL endorsement to make you more marketable. You will most likely get a job, but I would want to know where I am working before I get too settled. Houston is a big place and you don't want to drive an hour and a half for a teaching job. We are in the process of moving there this summer. My husband took a job and is staying at an extended stay hotel near his work. I have applied to a few districts and will go to some job fairs in April. Once I have an offer that will be a good fit, we will start house hunting. Best of luck to you.

I just read that Katy ISD is hiring 300 new staff. Katy is a suburb of Houston. The quality of the schools varies greatly.
