Having enough energy to cross the street.

If across the street, that makes sense.
For example, I never use gas station on opposite side of the street, it just adds extra efforts.
Depending on where you are coming from, one side of the street works better for one group of people and another side works better for the second group.

The funny thing about this is they closed the Starbucks across the street but there's two full service Starbucks still door to door next to each other, one stand alone and the other on the first floor of Barnes & Noble right after entering.

The one in B&N has different agreements with Starbucks, and you cannot use points there, or was it collecting? Hmm... anyway, I just remember not being able to use points. Plus you have to find a parking space, walk in, etc. Okay if you are retired and have the time, not so much when in a hurry.

Having the two on opposite sides of the street was great, as odd as it may seem. Neither one suffered any loss of business. The parking situation at both is bad, and only the one to the north is the only one that had a drive-thru.

I used to frequent the one on the La Madeleine side, and I used to stop in before heading to the office, and it opened very early, like 05:00. I would not be there that early, but usually about 07:00. I always saw a group of locals who would gather there each morning. Most looked like they were retired, but I know one of the women worked. All River Oaks people. Now they have to find a new place to hang out. The one on the north side does not have the same seating, and big windows.

So I can see how it will be missed. I used to like listening in on their conversations (could not help it really) as I waited for my coffee. RIP Starbucks. Not only them, many business have, or will shutdown. What a waste.

They should replace the now gone Starbucks space with a Shipley Do-Nuts. Lots of the newer Shipley have a Starbucks like menu now.

Exactly. This area does not really call for so many Starbucks in one block like some localities do. I preferred the one that just closed because parking was better. The other one had a Los Angeles -style parking lot with limited mobility, if I recall correctly.

There's nothing wrong with having Los Angeles-style parking in Houston. Just park further away like anyone in any big city would do.

I would prefer a Krispy Kreme Donuts instead.
