The number one duty of an elected official should be to protect the health and safety of their residents.

This virus has led to mass confusion at the local, state, and federal level but despite it all Judge Hidalgo has held true to what she thought was best.

She implemented a mask order on APRIL 22nd as we entered our May reopening phase to prevent Houston, and Harris County, from being overwhelmed with COVID19 patients. That order was quickly overruled by Governor Abbott. Along with Mayor Turner, they tried to carry out the message that things were NOT safe despite the mass confusion from our State leaders. I remember Many and early June...I started to see less and less mask wearing.

Well today, JULY 2ND, Governor Abbott is finally requiring masks being worn in the State of Texas.

Imagine if he listened to Judge Hidalgo from the beginning.

I give Lina props for handling the pandemic to the best of her ability while dealing with an incompetent governor and a bunch of manbabies belittling her and calling her names like "Dora" and "comandante." Seriously, give this woman a medal or something.

The best way to get back at them is to re-elect her then have her run for Governor one day down the road. Running Harris County would be a great stepping stone to the Governorship.

I am not so sure about her being re-elected. She did not win on merits originally, she won solely based on straight ticket voting, nothing else. She did not have much of a chance and she, and others probably knew this. Straight ticket voting is now outlawed in Texas, so I doubt she's coming back. Time will tell. If it was a City of Houston position she would be running for, I can see her being re-elected, but her position is a County position, and despite Houston being Blue, the county is Red.

I liked Judge Emmett (still do), and voted for him. Judge Hidalgo seemed like an under-experienced, way out of her league accidental victor. My only hope was her greenness wouldn't cause harm to Harris County.

She has proven me wrong. She's sharp, a fast learner, not afraid to take an unpopular stance when it's the right thing to do. She's been thrown into the frying pan, and for the most part, has proven herself.

Look back to May, when we started venturing back out into civilization, and Judge Hidalgo ordered everyone to wear masks. Gov. Abbott quickly stomped on that order. The Judge begged to be allowed to require masks, warning what was coming. The Governor gave in to his science-denying conservative supporters, and said no. Fast-forward six weeks, and it's out of control. Hundreds of thousands of new cases, and what does Abbott do? Require masks. If only he had the strength of conviction that our Judge has.

I don't always agree with her political views, and often don't like the way she spends our money. But she is honest, hard-working, and willing to fight for what is right. She has my vote next time.

Time will tell.

The county isn’t red though. It’s been blue since 2008 and given the domestic born and white residents that are fleeing Harris county, it’s only getting bluer. I’d say her re-election chances are well over 90%.

You're probably right, all of Texas has been changing the last decade. 2020 will be interesting to see how much Texas really has changed.

It must really stick in some people's craw to see a young brown woman in a position of authority. And now, even worse, she's doing a great job. Don't people know how to stay in their place?

Ha-ha... "...stay in their place?" 'Sounds like something a racist would say. No one can have opinions unless they agree with yours, is that it? Typical. For what it's worth, I am brown, and Latino, just like my cuz Lina.
