I would look at Greatwood in Sugar Land. Its built around a golf course, you budget is about right, and offers easier access to the coast if you want to get away to beaches on the weekend.

Have you considered the East End? Your commute to downtown would be short (10 mins from Eastwood, 15 from Idylwood), Gus Wortham golf course on Wayside is nearby, you'd be 15 mins to Montrose, 15 mins to Heights (plus plenty of coffee shops, restaurants and bars opening right in the neighborhood) and decent housing stock under $500k. You'd probably have to put in a pool yourself, though, as they're not terribly common out here.
