Mosquitos and roaches, don't y'all have screen doors or window screens? In chi-town I routinely have windows open when 80-85 with humidty 45-55% if there is a breeze. Typically close windows and turn on AC to cool off house for sleeping. I know it sounds bass ackwards but Wife likes it warm, she spent her formative years in TX and did peace corps in the Phillipines without A/C. I run the AC with a dehumidifier in my 2700 SF house when it is warmer. No issues with mold. It sounds like more consistent, potentially non-stop A/C for 4-5 months and the potential for fresh air about 2 months in spring and 2 months in fall and when there is warm weather during the winter.
Another question, why so few homes with screened in back porches/decks?
Thanks for everyones input for the newbie.

Actually, I think the weather in Houston (especially in the spring and fall) is getting much more pleasant. It seems as though there have been many more "open window" and "lying in the hammock" days the past few years than there were back in the 1970-1980's.

I'd open the windows too if it was 50% humidity, but it's typically not! That said, this was a gorgeous open window weekend.
