Hi everyone,

We will be relocating to Houston, still deciding between Katy, The Woodlands, Cypress and Tomball.

It occurred to me as I read this forum that my 29' towable travel trailer (rv) I keep in my driveway might not be welcomed by the HOAs that sound pretty prevalent in these areas.

1- Anyone here had an issue with this and how did you resolve?

2- Am I wrong to assume that most houses in these 4 areas are HOA dominant?

Thank you.

We have a 26ft TT and keep it in a storage facility 2 miles from our house, due to HOA restrictions.

There are houses that are not subject to HOA RV restrictions in most Houston suburbs, these tend to be older communities or those without an HOA.

I think Realtor.com has a filter that allows you to choose to search for homes with no HOA, and even RV/Boat parking. I don't know how accurate that is though. I would be careful to double check.

Totally depends on the restrictive covenants you sign when you buy a property.

You are correct in thinking it will be a problem in a community with an HOA.

Most people with RVs living in HOA governed communities store them in an offsite facility, build a storage building for them onsite IF they have adequate space and the deed covenants and zoning allow, or a minority of owners sell their RV to avoid problems.

I don’t have any hard data, but I would agree with your assessment that most communities in these 4 areas will be covered by an HOA. You will have to search diligently for an older property or subdivision in those areas that has not instituted an HOA.

Thanks for the advice all.

In any case my wife told me "Don't be that neighbor", so I'll probably suck it up and store it somewhere.

Do you want a neighborhood/MPC or an area more spread out with a nature/country feel? You haven’t mentioned budget. I don’t know Katy, TW, Tomball but I know the Cypress area north of 290. It’s got a little bit of everything for everyone.
