Hey all,

I have been with DirecTV for 11 years now and have stuck by them through all the rate increases. However, my service has been messing up for the past year - no reception even when it's clear outside and picture freezing up for no reason. It's become unbearable. I have had the same receivers for 11 years and DirecTV refuses to change them unless I sign a new contract, pay for it fully and sign up for the protection plan (this is an advise as I was told by the DirecTV rep that the new receivers have a lot of issues and this will save me from incurring repair and trip fees).

I am finally ready to move on. 2 things have prevented me from moving on till now: (1) When we moved to CR2, we were told that our only options were Comcast and AT&T, and (2) I learned online that Comcast add up to 40% surcharge and fees to its bills.

Does anyone know if CR2 is still limited to Comcast and AT&T? If not, what other options are there? Finally, it will be greatly appreciated if anyone can share a rough estimate of their Comcast bill. I will probably switch to Comcast...but I just want to know what to expect. thanks!!!

Go to Xfinity.com and put in your address, or a neighbor's address, and see what plans Comcast offers in your area.

I've had DirecTV since '07 and have never had any major issues getting reception in clear weather even when I was in an apartment. I do agree with you about the price increases though.

Try calling DirecTV again and threaten to cancel and see what they say then about replacing your equipment.

I know the plans available in my area...just trying to find out about xfinity's fees and surcharges, which (I have read online) can add up to 40% of your plan price to your bill. For example, HD ($10), additional outlet ($4 - I have 3 additional, so $12), broadcast fee ($5), regional sports ($3). That's $30 already without regulatory fees and taxes.

DirecTV has been owned by AT&T for the last 5 years. Just found out that they are retiring the U-Verse TV service and only offering their new internet box and DirecTV (before they sell it off).

Actually your only options west of 99 are Comcast and Consolidated Communications, a telephone company that specializes in rural areas. AT&T only serves Cinco Ranch around the intersection of Mason and Fry Road and that little sliver around Westheimer and Fry. Everything west of Mason is Consolidated.

After my sister-in-law bought her first house in Mission Bend a few months ago and got AT&T fiber internet, I checked Consolidated if they now offer fiber in Cinco. After I typed in my address, they still offered the same DSL service that I had when I first moved here--no luck!

DSL's fastest speed was 20 mbps for $31.95--not enough bang for the buck. I own my own modem (to get out of Xfinity's monthly rental fee for their box) and subscribe to the base 100 mbps plan for $45/month.

About 5 years ago, I got rid of cable TV and set up an antenna in my attic to feed my 2 televisions. Went cell phone only a couple years ago to shave a few more dollars off the monthly bill to Xfinity. If you want home security alarm, go with Smith Thompson instead (just trust me on that!).

Very happy with my current setup!
